At Comeval, we continue to strengthen our presence in one of the most demanding sectors in terms of materials and resistance: desalination.
On this occasion, we are presenting double-plate wafer check valves made of 5A super duplex material, with a PREN greater than 40, an essential feature for ensuring optimal performance in corrosive environments. These valves are designed to prevent reverse flow and protect equipment and facilities, while offering high hydraulic efficiency and minimal pressure loss.
Valves made of 5A super duplex material for maximum corrosion resistance in desalination and pump protection applications
For one of our latest projects, a desalination plant located in Spain, different types of valves made of super duplex material have been selected. This is a highly resistant stainless steel thanks to its metallurgical structure and its notable chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content.
One of the key indicators for this type of material is the PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number), a value that estimates its resistance to pitting corrosion, which is particularly relevant in environments containing chlorides, such as seawater. The higher the PREN, the greater the material’s resistance to this type of localized corrosion. Therefore, choosing super duplex steels with a PREN greater than 40 guarantees significantly superior protection against the extreme conditions to which components are subjected in the desalination process.

Our goal is to accompany each customer in the search for the right solution, ensuring that every valve installed provides value, safety, and durability. With each project in the desalination sector, we reaffirm our commitment to technical excellence and the provision of reliable solutions for critical applications.
